In order to encourage pupil involvement we at Christ Church Primary School have implemented a School Council. Years 2 to 6 have two representatives on the School Council who are elected by their class. They meet regularly to discuss issues raised by their peers and staff.
The school council plays an important role in everyday school life at Christ Church. They have been involved in several fund raising initiatives and decided what to spend the money on. Recently the pupils have fedback to governors on our behaviour policy and looked at new ways to reward good behaviour in school.
They worked on achieving our Green Flag Award by encouraging children, parents and staff to reduce, reuse and recycle. They implemented a system of litter picker monitors and recycle monitors as well as other methods to make pupils more aware of other environmental issues.
They also helped to achieve our ‘Anti-Bullying Charter Mark’ Award. Classes all now have a ‘Tell Us’ box as well as worry sheets so that children can share concerns and worries. A buddy’ system is in place so that children have people to talk to.
This term they will be helping with our Basic Skills Award andlooking at how we can improve dinnertimes.
The children tell us they are happy and enjoy coming to school.
