Focus Provision

Christ Church has a Focus Provision which is for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) The staff within the provision are highly trained and experienced. Well planned resources with a child-centred approach are used to support these children throughout their journey in mainstream school, providing them with the skills and opportunities to work alongside the other children here at Christ Church. The focus provision is led by Miss Paling, with support from Mr Williams, Mrs Tudor and Miss Beetlestone. They work on a 1:1 basis with a key child but incorporate group work, friendship groups and class visits into their learning. The SENCo, Mrs Parkes, is the provision manager and is available to assist when needed and is responsible for ensuring the provision is run smoothly. At Christ Church we are committed to being an inclusive school. The children are encouraged to be accepting and socialise with the focus provision children where possible. Questions about autism are welcomed from the children and are addressed in a suitable manner. In Year 6, children have received basic ‘autism buddy training` from Miss Paling, showing children some of the barriers that children with autism face and how the staff within the Focus Provision can help. Some Year 6 children volunteer to look after the children with autism and ensure that they are included in play during their break and lunch times. Our Focus Provision was initially developed in July 2015 and was officially opened in September 2015 and is already being recommended to parents by the Sandwell Inclusion Support Team.
